Doing general cleaning in the spring is almost a ritual in many homes. When nature awakens to life again and the air starts getting pleasantly warmer, we also feel like refreshing our interiors. What is the best way to start spring cleaning and how to organize it? We suggest.
Determine the order of rooms or activities
A common method of tidying is to divide it into activities. That is: first wipe the dust in all rooms, then vacuum the floors, and finally mop the floors throughout the house. This method works great especially in small apartments and is certainly worth using to streamline the whole process.
However, in the case of rooms such as the kitchen and bathroom, it is good to separate them and give them extra attention. The above division into activities can be applied to rooms – living room, bedroom, children’s room, study, etc. Also in larger apartments, cleaning divided into rooms can prove to be a more convenient solution.
First, the more difficult zones
Referring to the above, places such as the bathroom and kitchen should be cleaned separately, and even plan their cleaning for a separate day, especially if our apartment is large. Kitchen and bathroom are usually the most demanding rooms when it comes to cleaning. That is why it is a good idea to start cleaning them while you still have energy and strength left.
Another reason why it is good to prioritize these particular rooms are the different cleaning products we use for the kitchen and the bathroom. In rooms, there is usually no need for strong preparations for greasy surfaces or those that remove limescale. So first gather all the necessary strong cleaners, clothes, brushes or sponges for removing tough stains and proceed with them. Washing the challenging areas first will give you the motivating feeling that the worst is behind you.
From top to bottom
It’s a good idea to start a general cleanup from the top down – and it’s not just about the floors. Start by wiping dust from the top of interiors: chandeliers, tops of cupboards and high shelves. If you’re cleaning windows, pulling down curtains and drapes comes first, and window cleaning will be second.
Then we clean the dust off the countertops, dressers, tables – the next level of height of the furniture in the apartment. If we want to tidy the inside of the cabinets as well, this is the right time to do it.
Finally, we move on to vacuuming and mopping the floors. In this way, we will efficiently clean all surfaces from dust, without the risk that we will have to repeat the cleaning.
Cleaning the lounge furniture
This point can actually be interjected in the middle of the previous paragraph, because lounge furniture is best cleaned before vacuuming and mopping the floors. After wiping the dust off the cabinets, shelves and countertops, we can get down to sofas, armchairs and couches. Upholstery should be vacuumed using the upholstery nozzle and then wiped with a damp cloth.
Ventilate the room
Finally, let some fresh air into our cleaned rooms. If you have the opportunity to get away from drafts for a while, e.g. on the balcony, open the windows fully in all rooms. Such ventilation should last at least 15 minutes. If you have washed curtains and drapes, then after ventilation put them on freshly washed windows.
