Castor oil was very commonly used by our grandmothers. Today, women are also starting to take an interest in natural beauty products, including castor oil. Be sure to check whether it is really a panacea for thin and falling out eyelashes.
Castor oil is made from ricinus communis – the castor bean. It is a plant in which the seeds are the most valuable for us. After their processing, the oil is added to the age of cosmetics. It can also be used on its own as a substitute for expensive skin care products. For years it was recommended for eyebrows and eyelashes, but recent studies have shown that castor oil does not work on eyelashes as we expect.
It does, however, have very positive effects on the skin. It is known for its softening and elasticity-enhancing properties. It also makes skin smooth and youthful looking. In case of dry and poorly nourished skin, it is worth using it at night instead of a cream. It is light and quickly absorbed. In addition, it effectively moisturizes the skin.
Dermatology specialists have discovered that castor oil does not accelerate the growth of eyelashes at all. Interestingly, its continuous use will have the opposite effect – eyelashes may start to fall out! Dr. Doris Day, a New York City-based dermatologist, claims on Refinery29 that applying castor oil to eyelashes may even inhibit their growth. This is because the oil blocks the hair follicles. The positive aspect of using castor oil is that it moisturizes your eyelashes, making them shinier. It is also important to note that the risk of irritation and sensitization is high, especially around the eyes. When applying castor oil to your eyelashes, you need to be very careful not to get it in your eye.
Although castor oil will not help in accelerating the growth of eyelashes, it can give the effect of smoothing and darkening them. If you have very light eyelashes and you are blonde, it makes sense to apply this product to your eyelashes. They will become much more visible and highlighted
To get long and curly eyelashes it is not enough to use conditioners or other eyelash products alone. Very important is a diet rich in minerals, proper hydration of the body and avoidance of cheap mascaras and mascara. They can glue your eyelashes together and weigh them down too much, which will cause hair to fall out and grow more slowly. Instead of castor oil, it is recommended to regenerate eyelashes with a lamination treatment, which nourishes them and gives them a beautiful shine and elasticity.
Castor oil should only be applied to clean eyelashes, free of mascara and other cosmetic products. The oil should be applied on the lash line and on the lashes themselves with a pre-cleaned brush. Disposable ear cleaning sticks will help in applying the oil to the skin. For eyelashes, it is better to choose a brush with short bristles. During application, avoid contact of the oil with your eyes and tear ducts. It is best to apply it at night, as it leaves a rather greasy and shiny film on the skin. In the morning, wash off the oil with a micellar lotion or eye makeup remover. It is also advisable to wash your face with a foam or gel with a delicate formula. To avoid weighing down the lashes, you can apply this product only at the lash line, along the entire length of the lashes. They will not be stuck together, and castor oil will nourish the skin, improving its condition.
