Best supplements for beautiful and healthy hair

It takes approx. 5 minutes to read this article

Probably every woman dreams of having beautiful, silky hair. Marketers are taking advantage of this female desire and are launching more and more new hair supplements. Which of them are the most effective?

Without a doubt, it is best for the body to get all the vitamins and minerals it needs from food, but studies show that modern products are poorer in nutrients than even 50 years ago. This means that supplements are simply essential to us

When looking for hair strengthening supplements, pay attention to their ingredients. Don’t buy at random; make your choice based on your individual needs. Consult your doctor, who will refer you to a blood test to find the cause of your problem. Below, you will find a list of vitamins and trace elements that are part of a complete hair care supplement

What vitamins does your hair need?

Vitamin A, or retinol, improves the metabolism of hair follicles and keratinized epidermal cells of the scalp. It is one of the most important ingredients in hair loss supplements. Consistent intake of vitamin A is often enough for hair to regain strength and density. If your hair is dull, dry and brittle, it is very possible that you are suffering from a deficiency.

Vitamin C

One of the antioxidants that play a significant role in collagen production. It has a cleansing, moisturizing and smoothing effect. Thanks to its antioxidant properties, vitamin C prevents hair shaft breakage and prolongs the life of the color obtained with hair dye. Interestingly, L-ascorbic acid is one of the ingredients most commonly used in the production of dermocosmetics.

Applying vitamin C directly to the skin is 20% more effective than oral supplementation. Topically applied vitamin C increases the synthesis of collagen responsible for skin tension. It follows that cosmetics with a high concentration of ascorbic acid have a positive effect on the condition of the skin, and therefore also hair.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D plays an essential role in maintaining the proper level of hydration of the scalp and prevents the formation of dandruff. Its deficiency can increase hair fragility, exacerbate seborrheic dermatitis and even cause alopecia areata.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E penetrates into the skin thanks to its ability to dissolve in fats, inhibiting premature aging processes. When added to cosmetic preparations, it increases skin firmness and elasticity. In combination with ceramides, it moisturizes and smoothens hair, and together with vitamin B6 it stimulates hair follicles. Good hair growth supplements must contain vitamin E

B vitamins

Stimulate the development processes of hair follicles and protect them from negative effects of external factors. They also strengthen the hair and accelerate its growth. Hair loss supplements must contain B vitamins.

  • B6 (pyridoxine) and B12 (folic acid) are involved in the division of hair follicle cells.
  • B7 (biotin or vitamin H) is one of the most important vitamins for the functioning of the entire body. Biotin transports sulphur molecules to hair cells, thus forming keratin – the main building material of hair. Biotin also delays the greying process. A deficiency of biotin can increase hair loss and impair nail growth, which is why it is called the “youth vitamin”.
  • B9 (folic acid) stimulates growth by stimulating the hair matrix cells.
  • B1 (thiamine) helps regulate the sebaceous glands and prevents dandruff.
  • B3 (niacin, vitamin PP) improves blood circulation, allowing more oxygenated blood to reach the hair follicles. This in turn makes the hair better nourished.
  • B5 (pantothenic acid) supports the production of keratin, strengthens hair and accelerates its growth. It is involved in the production of sebum, which protects the scalp against excessive dryness and other external factors. Pantothenic acid also participates in the division of hair follicle cells and is responsible for hair color.
  • B2 (riboflavin) provides hair with energy. Its deficiency contributes to excessive hair loss.

The Micro- and Macronutrients Your Hair Needs

Calcium and Iron

Low levels of calcium and iron are responsible for hair loss and split ends. Insufficient amounts of calcium and iron make hair greasy quickly and make it less elastic and supple. In addition, iron helps the erythrocytes to transport oxygen to the cells and thus stimulates hair growth.

This trace element is responsible for the growth and strong structure of hair.

Zinc and Selenium

Zinc and selenium are also particularly important for the health of your hair. Zinc is involved in the production of keratin, affects the sebaceous glands and the amino acid metabolism. Its deficiency in the body may aggravate the problem of hair loss. Selenium maintains the proper level of hydration of hair, protecting it against dryness

This element is responsible for hair color. It is involved in the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for hair color. When the level of copper in the body is too low, premature greying can occur.

You already know the beneficial effects of certain vitamins, minerals and amino acids on your hair. Armed with this knowledge, you can move on to choosing the best hair supplement in your case.
